Moelis LBO Technical Interview Drill: 30 Minutes

Use this free spoken-practice plan before a Moelis first round or later-round interview. It is a practice structure, not a prediction of what any interviewer will ask.

The drill

  1. 5 minutes - entry assumptions. Set a simple entry multiple, EBITDA, leverage level, and sponsor equity check. Explain each choice.
  2. 7 minutes - cash flow and debt. Walk from EBITDA to cash available for debt paydown, naming the main operating and financing deductions.
  3. 6 minutes - exit and returns. Choose an exit multiple and holding period. Explain what drives the sponsor return without relying on a memorized formula.
  4. 6 minutes - downside case. Stress revenue, margin, and exit multiple. Identify which assumption hurts returns most and why.
  5. 6 minutes - repeat. Explain the full LBO in 90 seconds with a clear entry case, value-creation plan, and risk.
